Chinese car sales rebound for the second consecutive month

China's auto sales in May achieved double-digit percentage growth, and the release of suppressed demand and promotional activities prolonged the sales rebound in April.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers with a government background said on Thursday that car sales reached 2.19 million in May, an increase of 14.5% from the same period last year. The association said that this result exceeded its expectations. In April, car sales increased by 4.4% year-on-year, ending the 21-month consecutive downward trend.

Shi Jianhua, deputy secretary general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, said that as long as the second wave of new crown epidemics does not occur in autumn and winter, it is believed that the Chinese auto market will continue to maintain a good state. He also said that in order to maintain the rebound momentum, the Chinese government may need to introduce policies to increase consumer confidence and provide support for car purchases.
